Aw heron, don't take that personally please. We have a good group here and there is some concern that people are encouraged at times to go out unprepared with no or little experience.

Hey, just a darn minute, there! I have to admit that it was Bob and the forum that finally got me off my... chair, and going. AND with an ailing husband in tow! I do know better than to go to the Dakotas in the middle of damn winter, though, so that's a plus. In all seriousness, though, we'd talked about this off and on, and sitting around waiting to die is rather less unpleasant than a snowdrift in the Dakotas. (Where I'm still not going.)
I 100% agree with you. Do it while you can. Enjoy life while it is still sweet.

Oh, hell, I always forget how hard it is to really express yourself on the interwebs. I was mostly kidding, except for that last sentence. But it's also true, really, that had it not been for Bob's missionary zeal, I might not have come out of my funk long enough to get off my ass and get this done for us. I don't even know if Ed will be able to handle it, but he wants to try, so here we come. I do hope we run onto some of you, irl.

My underlying point, hamhandedly made, was that I'm concerned that Bob's pied piper approach will eventually lead someone astray and into unsuspecting danger.

Last DEmember there was a story going around that a couple of women took to a van because of Bobs' videos. After months, found them selves in dire straights...eventually did kill themselves.
Anyone else hear that? Anyone know ...is this just urban legend

Regardless if it’s true or not ultimately we all have to be responsible for ourselves. There still would have been choices of some kind that they could have made other than that.

As Cammalu said, we all have to be responsible for ourselves, BUT when someone (usually with something to gain) convinces other people that living in a van is simple, easy and without negative issues, the reality can topple some people into dispair. Bob does this, and I would bet the Moneyless Manifesto does, also.
There are lots of people living on the edge -- they are able to continue as they are, where they are. But if someone sells them the line that they could 'improve' their situation by living in a van and have some money left over at the end of the month, the truth could lead to disaster. When they discover it was pie-in-the-sky, what do they do when they can't go back to what they were doing before? Their cheap, tiny apartment has been rented out. Winter is coming and they are in the northern latitudes. The old van broke down and they can't afford to get it repaired. What do they do?
The suicide rate among the homeless is very high.
