I only got 27.9 mpg on my last trip. I have a slow leak in the drivers front tire which was 30psi vs. 40psi. My goal is to hit the big 30 mpg but it might take a tailwind on I-95 in Georgia at 62 mph.

Gas prices I just converted what we paid .37c a litre USD In the US 85.c as a National average. Save you all doing the convoluted math. Why remain non-metric? You all want to be the same as Burma and Liberia? It was pirates I tell ya! It really was!!

I figured my numbers in 'metric.'
Both the van and car really do get better mileage when you use 'metric!"

1998 Safari Hightop Conversion w/4.3 Vortec, 4spd auto w/OD = 14 mpg in town & I have a lead foot. I've taken out 2nd row Captains seats and soon the rear seat/bed. When it's gone I'll weigh the van empty and at various times as the interior build progresses........if it ever does.
I'm curious to see when the rising gas prices will level out. I don't think any long trips are in my near future. I need to see how far I can go on a tank of gas with part of it not in town traffic.
I wonder if the mountains in north AL and Ga are any cooler in the summer? I live in south AL at the edge of the tropic zone<<<<<for planting outside plants and flowers.
I've been running a AC off and on for 3wks if not longer.

It’s making me rethink (again, its a cursed carousel) letting go of the Prius. I just drove back up from Phoenix to the Lower Mainland of British Columbia in 2.5 days. The car got an average of 50 mpg, it doesn’t do quite as well at 70 as it does at 30 mph... that’s when it gets 55 mpg.
I was all set to sell it in April/May and get a minivan but as gas was climbing (went up 80 cents a gallon in 2 months), I started waffling. (I’m good at waffling, should go to work for a pancake place.)
I am aware the average minivan would get 18-25 mpg (city/highway) and that’s a big hit compared to my Toyo. However the comfort factor (lack of) is really beginning to wear on me. I’m not a big guy and there’s soooo little room in the car. Having a built-in generator and a/c available is fine until you can’t move.

I've never had a vehicle in my 22 years of driving that got good gas mileage, when I hit 20 mpg i'm pretty excited. But my norms most my driving life have been 15 to 18 and that's all I can really hope for and have the type of vehicle I need to do what I need it to do. So, long ago I had to accept that gas was always going to be a real expense for me and i've budgeted accordingly. I also find that crying while I fill my tank helps a little and when gas prices creep up, wailing like a baby while I fill up eases the pain a bit more.

I was supposed to hit the road early June for Mexico. But rising gas prices, the heat across the southwest, the Mexican election and the fact that the van is not ready to roll have me thinking late summer or early fall might be smarter. Glad I still have a house. I did read that gas is supposed to drop come September.

I get 12 mpg all day with or without my trailers and its diesel to boot. 40 footer or the 12 footer it dont make a difference anymore. 38.5 gal tank can hurt at the pump if its close to empty at over 3 buck a gallon .
