Metal Detecting Finds - Kyz - 02-15-2023

I'm going to share photos of all the JUNK I'm finding. Please feel free to share pics of what you find, junk or not.

I'll spare you the total trash like wads of tin foil. Smile

First few searches, this is the stuff I found. All on the 10 acres my parents own.

Several nails and some hunks of metal... One looked like part of a faucet, the other like it could have been on a vehicle? and the other one I have no clue.

Today, in between the rain, I decided to dig where the RV has been parked for 3 years. I didn't get a chance to dig much, but I found 2 more old rusty nails. This is probably pretty close to where my grandmother's old house once stood.

Much better to find them with a detector than a tire.
Big Grin

After 50 years or so it is difficult to identify anything metal except nails. The ones from 100+ years ago lasted longer in the ground than the Chinese ones from the 70s.

Agreed! They were a good 6 inches down thankfully.

What was the target ID ? Keep track in a log and you'll learn the detector faster.
Nails (especially in areas with lots of them) sometimes mask other more desirable items . Swing slower after you find the target.and the detector might see through 'em ! .
And always !!! Check those holes again before you fill them back in.  The best stuff might appear now !

Oh , that brass thing is a shut off valve .
Junk is a major part of detecting , you'll have to dig a lot of it till one piece of junk turns out to be ,,,,,NOT junk.
The good stuff has a nasty habit of sounding (or IDing) just like junk sometimes !
If you "cherry pick only the good stuff " you WILL miss gold.

Posting pics of junk gets everybody to possibly identify something you had no clue about. Sometimes a definite piece of junk to you might be an easily identifiable artifact to someone else !

The nails were reading 22/23 I believe. They were in the same area. Yes, I always check with the metal detector before covering the hole.

At this point, I'm digging all the numbers as long as it's pretty solid and repeatable.
