Tales from a Ventilation Lunatic
locate foot, shoot. again.

Brainfarted and hooked 3s pack to 20.6v ridgid battery warm from charger for about 3 seconds.

the series interconnects on battery springs started melting into the plastic, holder, but no burnt electronics smell.

the overvoltage protection should in theory, have kicked in saving the day.

The batteries did not heat up.
the 3s pack still discharges fine, but recharging is only delivering 1/5 of the expected amperage.

ive no idea if the LVD still works properly but will not be trusting this BMS anymore.

i have one more. i guess ill see how difficult E6000 adhesive is to remove compared to amazing goop.

what grinds my gears is i was meaning to make an inline fuse holder, just never got the round tuit.

Since this battery easiky pulled 10+ amps when depleted to 10v and hooked to 12.6v 100 amp capable source, hooking it to 20.5v Ridgid battery source i imaging 20+ amps were flowing till i disconnected powerpoles.
A 5 amp fuse would likely have saved the bms though it claims 25 amps.

the warm CC/CV bucker is basically a 1 watt heater, passing 1.7 watts....

the E6000 Adhesive is perhaps slightly more tenacious than amazing goop. With chisel tweezers and a razor, i was able to cleanly remove and then replace BMS with little to perhaps no cursing involved. desoldered and resoldered with no wire cutting, and all solder joints were encapsulated with the E6000.

While soldering tools were out i decided to add bucker and pots to new 92mm delta.

While setting minmum speed on mini inline pot, then twistin finger pot, slowly up, it suddendly went full speed, sucked itself in a loop into my hand, cutting me and shearing off 4 impeller blades.

i have a spare impeller and will attach finger grille first. unless i decide to defeat my efforts subconsciously again, like I programmed to do by insecure parental units in those formative years.

One of the pots or my solder job or the bucker itself are bad. i just set it aside.

ive cut the top 12mm off smoked 92mm deltas to act as a V bucker cover. it increases size in pocket, but shearing off the caps renders the fan inop and my one 92mm clamp delta needs a new bucker because of sheared caps.

The Clamp MOAF is coming along. gonna add an on off switch, a powerpole output at fan base, and have located the main speed dial differently. No Oak involved, only Teak.

Did a wire hunt in house. wanted at least 18awg in a round sheath to fit through gooseneck's threaded ends

Found a round 3-18 that fits.

Am missing my spare parts bin which i Abandoned in California last December.

So we have the answer. If I toss this bin of extra crap will I regret it? Lol.

Possessions are burdens man.

i jlike repurposing , reusing things.

Had a stash of such things which could be useful at a later date.

Got around to making another 92mm delta for power tool batteries.
nice, refined, hardened.

Ran one Battery down to 17.7v, switched to another Battery. It usually takes a second or 3 to respond to voltage applied, and spins up slowly. It started oit normal, then went psycho, and died, and then smoke.

Basically acted like it was fed 20.4v.
like either the voltage bucker failed, or the dual series pots failed sending full voltage to fan.

when I destroyed an impeller, it acted similarly, went full power unexpectedly
likely need to smash pots and bucker.
I was not able to replicate the weird behavior, so reused bucker and pots, and fan had a dozen hours on it without issue.

Anyway, another 25$ and a bunch of labor up in smoke.

The dual pocket screaming 50mm Deltas are up and running.

i
The thing js, at 12.3v, they are not very impressive, on a 18v battery fed around 14v max, much more flow.
The single screaming 60mm delta flows way more and is more pocketable, and has a 15watt USB C charger on it.

Living in a stick and brick, and My van neglected,  my Fan projects became less important than new interests.

That is until I ran out of functional backup fans for the garage.

Months ago, My 120mm x 36mm Jaro fan's voltage bucker too a dump, and it got put in a box.
I had other fans, and other projects.

More recently One of the 140mmx 36mm fans I use to blow over the powertrain of my electric skateboard, took a 6 foot fall onto concrete, and the Bucker ejected some capacitors.

This caused a lack of acceptable airflow, which needed to be remedied and improved, along with the dormant other fan projects.

So the Jaro fan and the 140mm fan just got new  XL4005 Buckers, and I am using the gorilla glue version of Amazing goop/e6000.  It stinks far less than either and dries a bit clearer and is a bit less viscous.  The buckers are now protected from fingers or falls with sections of the casings of the multiple failed 92mm fans

I have the  MOAF 140mm x 50MM 24v delta fan on a gooseneck.  I completely forgot why I stopped working on this fan, but as far as I can tell it is because I  wanted to apply epoxy to teak before stuffing the buck boost converter and potentiometer inside of it and Dialing it in.  It was put in a box and forgotten about too.

I kind of try to use excess epoxy on such tasks, rather than mix a fresh batch just for it, and it got tabled and forgotten, even though I would have benefitted from  its superior airflow.

I had a 120mm Delta fan on my 3 fan intake shroud fail in California before I left nearly 2 years ago, but no Time to investigate its failure then.
I did get another delta fan, and even hardened it,  but never installed it.
It too got put in a box and forgotten about.
It is now back in the 3 fan shroud and that shroud  is now the improved, and is   main garage ventilator, but can be returned to the van, should I ever actually use the Van again.

As far as the 18v nominal power tool batteries go, as pocket fan power sources, to aim at Fiona if she overheats on a long walk, well, we don't take long walks anymore. We roll to the parks or to the watering hole, or Just roll to roll, because walking Kind of sucks.

My electric skateboard has been our ticket to sanity, and we ride no less than 10 miles a day weather permitting, and somedays we have  cruised upto 30 miles, recharge the 10s2P battery 3 or 4 times and head out again and bark up the hood.

I could power the skateboard with two Power tool batteries in series for 36v nominal, and a small, simple 3s1p 11.1v nominal battery can power any fan I choose to carry, but when we can roll at 20Mph, we pretty much always have a 20 mph breeze, so who needs a fan?

The Van is reregistered Here in Florida.  I Have driven it perhaps 10 miles since it has become legal 2.5 months ago, but part of that is No AC, it is Florida, summer is  ridiculously hot, and my driver's side window motor took a dump.  I thought I could fix it with new brushes, and I did get it to function properly with new brushes, but only if I ran it on a voltage booster at 22+ volts.

I'd ordered a Dorman replacement motor, but it was a plastic POS, that would need a bunch of precisely sized shims to even begin to operate properly without binding, so I sent it back.

Hurricane Debby dropped So much rain inland, and caused so much flooding there, that it basically caused toxic water to flow to our watering hole.  I disallowed Fiona from swimming in it, but one day she put 4 feet down, and refused to budge, and I allowed her to swim in water that looked a bit clearer.

6 hours later one of her mammary glands had swollen to nearly  the size of my Fist and I took her to the emergency room.

They kept her for 6 hours running all the tests they recommended and which I authorized, and she  quickly improved.

A week later the emergency room vet called me and said the culture came back, and that they had never seen, nor heard of t this type of bacteria in a dog, and that she needed to be put on different Antibiotics immediately, even though the mammary had responded to the other antibiotics and she seemed to be doing pretty well.

The Bacteria Culture was Vibrio Vulnificus, and Google AI will tell you it is impossible for dogs to contract this bacteria.
It is the bacteria which infects raw oysters and kills 30% of humans who are infected with it.
Cholera, is Vibrio bacteria.

The Water is still nasty, and she is not allowed to swim in it, but is doing pretty well, but it did seem to age her.  Its been nearly 3 weeks now, and the recent visit to her regular VET they said she should technically be spayed and have all her mammary glands removed, but that she has such a 'High quality of life right now' that the vet could not recommend these major surgeries.

We've not gone kayaking for a few months now, unfortunately.  We both miss it.

We roll nearly all the way to the Watering Hole daily.  I put some 8x3"Pneumatic  turf tires on the front truck of My skateboard, and some 12" tires on her chariot and we can roll the whole 1/4 mile crushed shell trail, but usually walk the last 80 yards or so, So she can squat and hunch, before Awaiting the passing Cormorants and Pelicans.

Awesome dog.

Glad latest big soggy mess missed you this time.

Fan neglection is serious stuff ! Glad to see they are getting back up to speed.

Nasty sounding water conditions. Keep the fur kid safe , barking up the hood mustn't be missed ! I bet if you made a YToob vid , it would go viral ! Feature the rig as well as the poochicle. You could probably do a series in different locations too. Cormorants don't charge for cameo's.....

Kudos for sticking with the program and it won't last forever.

Some guy from a local news affiliate chased me down wanting to do a story.
I declined. He though Fiona was disabled or something, and I was like
' nope, she just loves to cruise'
and I hit the throttle and we started barking.

Unlike a majority of people, I do not like being the center of attention.

In fact, I Despise it, and a wish i had another HP to accelerate away faster from those who thi k I should stop and pose for a picture foe them

I wish the next hurricane would avoid me too, but there is a big old target on this area
