That is an answer I do not know, but if you look to nature for your answer the answer is no. That being said I help others whenever I can whether it be shoveling out an elderly neighbor or helping someone catch up on some bills.
The answer to this question is the difference between freedom and slavery.
In freedom you are free to help those less fortunate, and in fact the best way to get rich is to make millions of people’s lives better— eg look at the human potential the iPhone has unlocked globally.
Well not a comparison to yours, it's close. My old boss who i still talk to regularly feeds his competition as much work as possible. One day I asked him why he does that and he said it's a common myth to believe the more competition you have the less you'll make, but the exact opposite is true, the more people you have doing what you do the better you all do. No business can reach 100% of the marketshare and the more that are out there doing it, the more people know about it, the more business you all get in return.
That's always stuck with me.
Not sure if this would work in small/rural towns with limited population but in Boston his theory seems to be working very well for him.
