My guitar cost me $30 !
You should be able to find something like a Squire in a hockshop for $50-100 or so.
They're basically Strats that skipped the last couple of finishing steps.
Maybe adj the truss and file fret ends is all you'd need to finish it yourself.
Craigs list or "smartshopper,pennywise etc type papers  too ?

naw,couldn't just order a guitar without touching it ya know

a wood strat style with narrowish through body neck and scalloped frets is what i like,just not a priority at the moment
