Another update for the one person who might read this. Still no chance to change vehicles, every thousand miles and the resulting service dollars spent just buries me further into this car, sigh. I have been using it as the "motel" due to the job. Currently I drive 70 miles one way from the family house to a decent paying, extremely easy security job which I don't want to give up. Its' shifts vary from M-F 2nd shift to weekends 1st shift.
Currently am in a 30 day straight rotation. The hardest is Friday evening to Saturday morning when I work 3 -11 pm Friday then start at 7 am on Saturday morning at a different location. Instead of driving the 140 miles rt in order to have a bed, shower etc, I just stay in some nearby hotel parking lot or office complex, saving 2.5 hours and $15 in gas.
1st night I chose to stay beside a brightly lit hotel lot, in a right-next-door darker office parking lot. Mistake! At 1:20 am got a thorough once over with the spotlight, lighting up the interior for at least a minute while the LEO decided what to do. No knock, just made me very awake and uncomfortable. As soon as he/she left I moved to the adjacent hotel parking lot and slipped into an overly brightly lit space. Not much rest that night.
This coming weekend it is supposed to be 22 degrees Saturday morning and my chintzy 3 seasons sleeping bag, blanket and lightweight comforter won't be doing the job at that temperature, so I ordered a real 0 (survival temp only) degree F mummy bag with good ratings. Hope that's going to be better!
The Edge still isn't a good choice for multiple nights (and/or days) as it's just too tight. Maybe the LEO just didn't believe that anyone would be staying in it (the fogged up windows inside at 6:15 am told a different story though). With about 63-64" of length behind the front seats and maybe a foot of overhead clearance from the prone position it's not exactly spacious.
The saga continues.
