I've found cutting foam rubber cleanly, to be a frustrating task, in the past.
I now use a freshly sharpened long chefs knife, and then applied a layer or 3 of car wax to it to reduce friction. Otherwise the foam rubber tries to cling to the side of the blade.
An extra set of hands to pull the cut foam away from the blade side works too, but its hard to get a straight cut
