You ever hear any of those Freddie Mercury isolated vocal tracks? Man, the guy had some chops. Real, raw, intensely human.

And totally unprocessed.

(In fact with headphones you can hear he's in a room with some natural reverb---you don't here that often today---and there's a bunch of edits, fade ins and outs, and background sounds in there. Definitely old school.)

I saw Janis Joplin in her early days with Big Brother and The Holding Company. A two hour and two fifth concert and what a set of pipes. Some didn't like her style. For me it spoke to me.

Loved Ya Pearl.

That gave me goosebumps. I love love Janis.
I would give a finger or two to see her live in her prime and share a bottle of SoCo with her.

I didn't say they ALL needed the processing , just that many don't realize the ones that do ,,(,and an awful lot more of it these days, emphasis on the awful aka autotune , especially when overused and it's all I hear Angry those need to find something else to do with their life ,,,,,,so much great talent that never makes it to the big time gets ignored because of it too).

Then there are the ones that don't need anything and still do just to go to 200% Cool , like Mercury (or Joplin)!
I used to love clamping on my pro4AA s and hitting the solo button for the great ones like them  !!!!!!!!!
stay tuned

Go to the 3:00 mark in this video... the audio quality is poor, but her voice is STILL spectacular.
