what cable to connect a Roku LT to a portable DVD player?
#11
I doubt your small town store will have that cable because it is even more specialized than the stereo one.

Yes, it will carry the video signal. There are 4 wires in it, left audio, right audio, video and a common. It is called a TRRS male to male cable.

I searched Walmart and it seems their only option is shipping and so is best buy. They may have ship to store.

Sometimes new jacks are a bit tight , also there is a little difference between the 1/8" and metric 3.5mm but typically interchangeable.
Standard 3 conductor TRS and phone 4 conductor TRRS on both end cables.
Seen at Martus De Wallus , Target , Big Lots , Dollar Tree , Convenience/Gas Store , Radio Shack , etc etc etc.
If you can't find at one , go try another.... or ask someone parked nearby where you are to look in their junk drawer ?

Keep us posted on your findings.

Standing in a Russian "wallmart" called EBI here and waiting for the incredibly slow checkout person to get thru opening and checking out boxes. I spied a connector. It looked correct. Chinese knockoff Apple iPod video USB to apple multipin. Could it be true? My old one had to be plugged in and turned just right to mimic the slight gravitational wobble of our spinning sphere to work. It is very old tech. But it has stored 160 gig of bootlegs and various songs and recordings gone forever. The only known vessel of Duffy Mekgan "I am a used dishrag" sang in the tune of I am little tea cup. Jello Biafra free styling punk rap. Trent Reznor doing Sammy Davis "The Candy man" and other gems like Henery Rollins live show in Vancouver in 1981. Could my search for the one pin that would allow me to download to another device and hack apples anti piracy script be a mere inches away. .60 cents

Alas it connects and plays but the missing connection is still there. But the gravitational wobble requirement is gone.

One day.

Relation to the the OP

The cord you need will never be in the drawer. But like friends, you'll find them eventually.

Then store them with the socks and under ware. Little known fact:

The underwear gnomes and sock Trolls that steal said items hate each other but will form an alliance if they encounter cable snakes. Both the Gnomes and Trolls have a burning racially fuelled hatred of Cable Thief Snakes.

New Dumb Questions:

1. Is there a simple gadget/cable(female-to-female) that would connect the RCA trio of each, with each other?
I mean the Roku's 3.5mm to RCA trio, with the DVD-player's RCA trio to whatever jack.
The DVD folks claim I can use their cable as input, but I'm highly suspicious.
There's a very slight chance I might have an old VCR in my storage unit, in which case I could use it. Granted, that would be greatly taxing my wee Suaoki power pack.

2. Is there some viable kludge I could perform to connect just the video RCA connectors of the two cables?
That way, I could test whether the DVD player's AV IN port does anything.

P.S. Scott good luck with your quest! I am well acquainted with that gravitational wobble. Smile

I took pictures of the single jacks of each cable, and will upload them during my next Library free wifi run. Smile

Ah, yes, you can connect them together with a RCA female to RCA female adapter: https://www.amazon.com/Warmstor-Audio-Fe...r=8-4&th=1
or
https://www.amazon.com/Warmstor-Audio-Fe...way&sr=8-4

This is probably another thing that would have to be ship to store. Not a normal hardware item.

Have you tried a mind meld between the devices?
Asked the devices how they see their relationship?
Sorry.
By now I would have broken open the cases of the Roku and the DVD player and hard wired a patch cable. Frying both devices. Followed by buying more stuff that may or may not work as expected.
