Before I retired, I was a one-man IT department for the state facility I worked at.
The Official Motto of said IT department (me) was:
"To Err Is Human, To Really Screw Things Up Requires Computers!"
I too was a state IT drone - Florida Dept. Of Education. I worked closely with the DOE Comptroller staff. They could really request some weird stuff on occasion. I got pretty good at doing what the other programmers thought couldn't be done.
Had a sign on my cube wall......
"The difficult I do quickly, the impossible takes a little longer!"

State of Nevada IT person here! I was an ISS2 ( information systems specialist). Then the director of IT and Marketing for a small insurance company and then a Data Base Manager for an Indian tribe in California. I became ill with an autoimmune disease and eventually ended up on SSDI. I do miss the work, problem solving keeps the brain sharp.
Now all my dull brain can manage is a joke about herpes.....
