Window's Update--Issues or maybe not
#1
If you're using Windows 11, there is an issue with the latest Windows updates affecting Solid State Drives (SSD). You might want to pause updates for a couple weeks.

Now I'm off to figure out if my computer auto updated this for me...

My computer did update automatically!

Here are some steps to protect your PC...

To pause updates:

Go to settings.
Windows Update
On Pause Updates select Pause for 1 week (2, 3, 4, or 5 weeks)

The update you don't want is KB5063878

To check, go to settings
Windows Update
Update History
If you see KB5063878, scroll to the bottom and Uninstall Updates
Select Uninstall on the line with the KB5063878 update (I had 2)
Uninstall
Restart

You'll be back to the update before the "bad update"

An update: No, a Windows update probably didn’t brick your SSD (article title)

https://www.theverge.com/news/768431/win...k-your-ssd

So maybe not, but I did have to recover my grandson's computer after he tried to uninstall the update...

PS: I'm still not unpausing Window's Updates just yet...

So, probably no one cares at this point... BUT ...

Here's an article stating Microsoft found a different issue with the August update (not the SSD failure).
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/mi...C-prompts/

I'm still hearing conflicting news on the SSD failure. There have been some "tech gurus" that have been able to replicate the SSD failure. There has been yet another "requirement for failure" added to the list though, your hard drive has to be at least 60% full as well as dealing with files (downloading or backing up) of 50 GBs or higher.

I habitually postpone updates… as long as possible…. Just saying

Not that I have long standing trust issues….. :/

Well be warned, I also read an article about forced updates coming with a future update. : |

I didn't realize my updates were automatic (I usually ok the download, but say let me choose when to install).

My updates are still on pause though.
