My cellular set up
#1
I just finished getting the entire set up done.

1. Cricket Wireless unlimited plan for $55 a month with autopay. I paid $149 for an iPhone 5, but you can bring your own phone. Cricket uses AT&T towers.

2. Verizon unlimited MiFi hotspot, 3G, bought off of eBay for $59 and the service is $5 a month.

3. Wilson Sleek 4g-s cradle signal booster. Purchased off of eBay refurbished for $129.

4. Yagi Directional antenna mounted on a painters pole with low loss cable. Less than $50 for the antenna and pole and $35 for the cable.

5. An SMA male to N female coax connector. $5 on eBay.

So after all equipment was purchased my monthly cost is $60 for unlimited phone and hot spot service using both Verizon and AT&T.

That's pretty darned good! Let us know how your service holds up in use?

Will do.

BTW, Bob's video "How a Nomad gets internet" has the wrong adapter listed. So when I initially purchased all I thought I needed, I had the wrong adapter to make the system work. Then I contacted Wilson and they told me the wrong adapter to order. I finally went into an electronics shop and they sold me the correct adapter. So I have a couple of useless ( to me ) adapters. So buyer beware, his shopping list is incorrect.

I'm getting an increase of two bars with the booster here in town. I'll be checking out the performance boondocking next month.

The booster works for both the phone and mifi.

So far, testing the 3G Verizon. I am able to stream Netflix and YouTube. I just set the quality to standard. Buffering takes a few seconds to minutes and then it streams just fine.

How many Gigs data before they throttle?
My Verizon "Unlimited" allows 20Gig before throttling.

22 gigs on Cricket and then you get deprioritized if there is tower congestion. Honestly I have never had my data throttled on Cricket, I think it happens more often in cities, and I stay away from those places.

We are discussing what to do regarding cell/data. The wife and I both have ATT. The service is good enoug on my line as I can not beat the price, free, and I have a newer iPhone 6splus that is still on network. Out here on the left coast I am thinking we will be looking into the Verizon hotspot as well.
The wife has the dropsies with her phone, so we will be purchasing a new one soon and think we will go Verizon so we have one on each.
I'm watching this one for updates...

Great set up, I shall steal the design when I get back to North America. I won't tell you my current oppressed nations costs on cellular as it might start a revolution. LOL!

Great setup! I've been interested in both Cricket and a signal booster for a while, so this gives me a good starting point.
