Update.  The replacement Mighty Max (made in Thailand by the way) came today, woo-hoo.  That’s the good  news.

Now as Paul Harvey used to say, “for the rest of the story”... ???

I forgot to add I hate dongles .
They probably last only as long as the cord does ...and you know how long that is these days.

 A real computer should have all the ports you need !!!    
The mfg's probably were paid off by those dongle makers fer sure ...

Most dongles that I have used have no cords. Similar to a USB thumb drive. Dongles have never failed for me. I have used Bluetooth and Wi-fi dongles, as well as the thumb drives.

My connection to Wi-fi on this tower computer is provided by a Wi-fi dongle. I had it custom built without Wi-fi, as the dongle that I already owned worked well, and a Wi-fi card was not cheap. I spent my $$ on the high end (at the time) CPU and 16GB of memory.

Older computer platforms that run fine on a current Linux distribution, that would be unsupported, and unusable, with currently supported Windows, or other proprietary systems, can be easily upgraded with newer technology by an under $50 dongle.

Reuse. Recycle. To save the planet within the next ten years.

Paid with cc, no refund requested. I’ve salvaged both batteries by gently bending the soft lead positive post back up fairly straight then redrilling the holes so that they will accept the 3/8” bolts. I figure for the $66 cost of the first, I now have 70 total amp hours capacity for $66. I know I really only have 35 ah useable but still.

The second purchase issue was the 12v/usb combo marine from Blue Seas. I wired it up (carefully) making sure to go + to + and - to - with the 16 gauge wire. I was going to use the ciggie plug adapter on the Bestek 300 PSW inverter for powering it and upon testing the usb side with my phone charger it showed “green charging” and no issues. As soon as I inserted the 12v inverter ciggie plug into the outlet, magic smoke billowed out in a thick fog from the outlet!

WTF? Panicked, I jerked it out and saw that the plug was already melted at the positive tip end. Really?  Not knowing which one was at fault and not caring enough to check, I followed the (SW) advice and cut the ciggie plug off, wiring it direct to the battery. For anyone else doing this, the black and white striped wire is positive, the all black wire wire is negative.

So while I don’t know yet if the Blue Skys outlet is faulty or not, now the inverter works fine at low wattages (only tested to 50W so far).

The saga continues... Can’t say that I am overly impressed with this project. Just shows that “Murphy” is alive and well.

Timed out before I could get a picture configured. 
Below is the way it came charged and damaged, and then the Mighty Max AGM 35 amp hour battery in the oversized gp 31 box, with the wiring to the Blue Seas double with the Bestek inverter directly wired (inverter not in picture). Amazing piece of electrical assembly technical work I know, try to not applaud too much...

Pretty sure that my “not quite Fluke quality” multimeter is reasonably accurate, however that’s quite the charge right out of the box!
